Before you rent
Before you rent a bounce house
If you're planning on renting a bounce house anytime in the future, take five minutes to read this and potentially save yourself hours of frustration and stress (seriously).
1. How it works
In most cases, you will begin online at your provider's website. A reputable provider lets you check availability, get pricing, and place the order there. The listing should show dimensions, setup area, capacity, photos, and sometimes video. Most prices include delivery, setup, and removal. If the site does not say that, ask.
Once the order is in, expect a message before the date about delivery, use, and pickup. On the day, most providers text when they are on the way. The bounce house often arrives before the start time, sometimes by a few hours. A reputable provider does not charge for that extra time. Same for pickup.
2. Weather and rain
Read the weather policy before you book. Some companies cancel the whole day when the forecast looks bad, and you find out at the last minute. Look for rain-or-shine service and no cancel fee if you call off for weather before the driver arrives.
3. Safety
A bounce house is safe when the company follows state rules: inspections, insurance, and trained setup. Ask where the inflatable was made. Prefer American-made vinyl. Some imported units have had lead in the vinyl above U.S. limits, plus weaker seams.
4. Refund policy
Do not prepay until you know the refund rule. Weather, sickness, and RSVPs change plans. Some companies do not refund, and some do not take a deposit at all. Ask.
5. Damage insurance
Many companies offer an optional damage waiver for rips and punctures in normal use. For toddlers through about age 6, it is usually unnecessary. For teens or a very rowdy group, ask what it covers and decide.
6. Deposits and payment
Some companies require a deposit. Some do not. Card, cash, Venmo, PayPal, and Zelle are common. Do not expect crypto.
7. How far ahead to order
Three to five weeks is comfortable. A good company can often still book 24 hours out, and sometimes same day. You may not get the exact unit you wanted.
Do the research, pick a company whose policies you like, and stay with them.
